David Ornstein shoots down Arsenal transfer rumours about Douglas Luiz

Douglas Luiz

David Ornstein has played down reports linking Arsenal with Douglas Luiz of Aston Villa and Dominic Solanke of Bournemouth.

Writing in his Q&A for The Athletic this week, David Ornstein played down two recent reports on Arsenal’s transfer targets for the comings windows.

But Ornstein believes both claims are being overplayed.

On Luiz, Ornstein writes that he has no information that Arsenal are set to return for the midfielder this time around.

The journalist adds that not everyone at Arsenal is fully convinced the Aston Villa man is the right profile for them, and Villa themselves have no doubt he’s staying.

As for Solanke, Ornstein says that to his knowledge, Arsenal aren’t interest in the striker.

Arsenal wants to buy a striker and a midfielder

Fabrizio Romano had recently claimed that even though it’s not going to be an easy deal to do,

Luiz remained at the top of the list for Arsenal technical director Edu Gaspar and manager Mikel Arteta in 2024.

But Ornstein is suggesting that’s not the case, and Unai Emery previously inform the media Luiz is “happy with us” and “I want to keep him”.

The Solanke rumours came from Alex Wood of the Daily Star, who claimed Arteta has shortlisted Solanke

As a back-up option for the January transfer window, should the club fail to sign Ivan Toney from Brentford.

Again, Ornstein has no information to back that claim up, and Bournemouth owner Bill Foley recently said the door “bolted shut” on any potential winter exits.

The Gunners will be looking elsewhere in January, it seems.

The buzz around the upcoming transfer window and reports connecting Arsenal to Douglas Luiz and Dominic Solanke. However, David Ornstein’s information suggests these rumors might be overblown or misinterpreted.

Ornstein indicated a lack of consensus within Arsenal regarding Luiz’s suitability for the team. Thus hinting at ongoing discussions about their transfer strategy.

Unai Emery, Aston Villa’s coach, has expressed his desire to keep Luiz at the club. Thus citing the player’s happiness in his current team.

David Ornstein firmly stated that Arsenal does not have an interest in Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke. Thus debunking claims by Alex Wood of the Daily Star.

Bill Foley emphasized that the club is not open to selling key players like Solanke during the winter transfer window.
