Arsenal open talks with Ivan Toney over January deal as Arteta wants him

Ivan Toney

Arsenal are reportedly primed to start negotiations with Brentford over striker Ivan Toney amid Chelsea and Tottenham transfer links.

According to journalist Rudy Galetti, Arsenal are considering whether or not to make a ‘concrete’ attempt to sign Brentford star Toney in January.

He claims the Gunners have already taken the ‘first steps’ with the striker’s entourage

And could start negotiations with the Bees soon.

Toney was ban for eight months in May after admitting to 232 breaches of FA betting rules

But the England international given a reduced suspension because of a diagnosed gambling addiction.

Arsenal manager Arteta keen to sign Ivan Toney

The 27-year-old is set to return to action on January 17, 2024, and it appears teams are queuing up to secure his services.

However, he will not leave on the cheap, amid rival interest from Chelsea and Tottenham,

Despite the fact his contract expires in the summer of 2025.

Toney switched agents in the summer in a move that suggested he could seek a new club in the not so distant future.

The former Peterborough United star scored 21 goals in all competitions for Brentford last season

And the campaign prior to that he notched 14 as well.

Brentford may be preparing for transfer bids to come their way for their prized asset when the January window opens next month.

Toney won’t come cheap either, with various reports claiming his transfer will cost Arsenal somewhere between £60m and £80m,

But again, with the Premier League title seemingly within their grasp,

Arteta is seemingly pushing to get a quality No.9 through the door,

Transfer expert Rudy Galetti claims ‘Arsenal are considering to make a concrete attempt for Ivan Toney’ having ‘taken the first steps with the player’s entourage’.

Brentford manager Thomas Frank has said in the past that he would be open to selling Toney

Who is set to return to action in January having been banned for eight months for breaching betting rules.

Galetti confirmed Arsenal ‘could start the negotiations with Brentford soon’.
