Arsenal stepping up their pursuit for Douglas Luiz as Partey replacement

Arsenal and Mikel Arteta should consider replacing Thomas Partey with Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz at the Emirates. Clarke, who appeared on talkSPORT recently was discussing how frustrating Partey’s injuries had become to both him and Arsenal.

Whilst he recognised the impact that Thomas Partey does have for Arsenal. He simply didn’t think he could be relied upon at the Emirates.

Thomas Partey exit could pave way for Douglas Luiz to Arsenal

The recruitment of Jorginho and Declan Rice has helped massively. But otherwise Partey’s injuries have been incredibly disruptive for Arsenal over the years. He has been an underwhelming player for the Gunners. Douglas Luiz signing would help Arsenal even more at this point in time.

Jorginho did a stellar job against Sevilla last night. But the Spanish side didn’t prove the toughest opposition for the Gunners.

And given his lack of physicality. Some fans do doubt the Italian’s ability to sustain his levels across a full season.

Douglas Luiz is a player that they’ve been linked with. He is somebody strong, a high-calibre player would have to come in and slot right into this team.

The Gunners missed out on Luiz’s signing back in 2022 after Villa rejected multiple approaches. This is from Arteta’s side for the Brazilian’s signature in the summer transfer window. The Villa midfielder went on to sign a new long-term contract with the club. But is now thought to be a target for Arsenal once again.

The 25-year-old would reportedly cost around £60million for the Gunners. Given that Arsenal spent more than £200million on incoming transfers over the summer. And didn’t raise as much through sales as hoped, it would be difficult for the Gunners. That is to match that price tag in January.
