ARSENAL OVERCOME THE DIFFICULT NEWCASTLE UNITED TEST

Arsenal defeated Newcastle United 1-0 to keep pressure on table toppers Manchester City. The goal of Martin Odegaard and own goal of Fabian Schar was enough for the Gunners. However, it is fair to say that the Magpies dominated the starting 10 minutes of the game. Jacob Murphy also hit the post in the first minute of the game.

Arsenal also survived a penalty shout. The Magpies were given a penalty after a hit on Jakub Kiwior’s hand. However, the replay showed that he had his arms on his side. Hence, the penalty decision was overturned. After that in the 14th minute, Martin Odegaard scored a brilliant goal outside from the box to give the Gunners the lead. The Gunners extended the lead after Newcastle defender Fabian Schar put the ball in his own net in the 71st minute.

IT LOOKS LIKE THE GUNNERS HAVE GOT TOO LATE WITH THEIR RESURGENCE IN FORM

Arsenal have lately managed to keep Manchester City on their toes for the Premier League title. However, the Gunners must admit, they have messed the title race. They were on the top of the table with a eight point difference. However, their draws against sides like Liverpool, West Ham and Southampton are the difference at the moment.

Arsenal also lost 4-1 against Manchester City at Etihad. Since, then the Gunners have won against Chelsea and Newcastle United. The Gunners will now only make try to make sure that they win all the remaining games of the season. They will also have to hope that Manchester City lose one of their remaining games of the season.

Manchester City also have the Champions League semi final against Real Madrid and FA Cup final against Manchester United to take care. Hence, Arsenal will hope that the distraction of these big matches has an impact on their results for Manchester City in the Premier League.
