Why haven’t Chelsea made a signing yet

Chelsea

Chelsea have been targeting several players in the transfer window. However, they are yet to make their first signing.

Chelsea have shown interest in Ousmane Dembele, Jules Kounde, and Raheem Sterling. However, they have not had a bid so far. Chelsea have had sanctions placed on them by the UK Government since the Russian invasion. As the former owner Roman Abramovich was an Oligarch, his assets were frozen and this included Chelsea. Although, they received a special license to operate until May.

Chelsea were unable to make any headway with player contracts either. Players like Antonio Rudiger and Andres Christensen have announced their departure.

Todd Boehly and his consortium have got the ownership of the club from Roman Abramovich almost 3 weeks ago. Boehly has granted manager Thomas Tuchel full control over the transfers. However, they have not been able to sign any player yet. This is mostly because there are still people in the club who are part of the Abramovich era. Chelsea are waiting for them to leave so that Tuchel has full control.

What do Chelsea need?

Chelsea have a lack of center backs at the moment. The two first-choice center backs have left the club. More importantly, Christensen and Rudiger were a key part of the team that won the Champions League. Chelsea have a tough loss in their hands and needs to replace them very quickly. Chelsea have been circling around Jules Kounde from Sevilla. Kounde has been amazing for Sevilla and has caught the eye of several clubs. However, he prefers a move to the Premier League and wants to play under Thomas Tuchel.

Moreover Chelsea needs to find a solution to their Lukaku situation. They need to figure either to sell him or keep him before the new season.
