Manchester United

Mason Greenwood, the 20-year-old Manchester United striker has been in the headlines recently after the rape and sexual assault charges against him were dropped. The charges stemmed from incidents that occurred since 2020.

The charges were dropped because key witnesses withdrew and new evidence came to light. This news has many Manchester United fans wondering what the future holds for Mason Greenwood, both on and off the pitch.

Greenwood was a rising star in the world of football since he made his debut for Manchester United in 2019. He quickly became a fan favorite, thanks to his impressive finishing ability in and around the box. However, the accusations have kept him out of football for over a year.

Greenwood’s return hangs in the balance

There are chances he could return to the club but there are chances his contract could be terminated permanently. United has got offers to loan Greenwood out, with several teams from Turkey among those showing interest.

The Athletic reports the option of reintroducing Greenwood to the club’s first-team squad as part of a possible phased return to football is still a huge possibility.

Manchester United’s current stance on Mason Greenwood

Manchester United have released an official statement several weeks ago. There will be an internal investigation regarding this matter. The matter won’t be concluded until a thorough investigation and Greenwood will remain suspended until further notice.

The official statement said,

The club will now conduct its own process before determining the next steps,”

“We will not make any further comment until that process is complete.”

Ultimately, only time will tell what the future holds for Greenwood. It was clear that he had a lot of potential as a footballer. However, there are certain things that are bigger than football. Despite the court of law finding him innocent, the club will also carry out an investigation. If Greenwood does not comply with it, his contract will be terminated.
