West Ham defender Nayef Aguerd rejects Saudi offer to stay at England

Flamengo is not in touch

Despite interest from Saudi Arabia, Nayef Aguerd, the defender for West Ham, declined to depart the club this summer.

Following their victory in the Europa Conference League at the conclusion of the previous season. David Moyes was undoubtedly keen to retain his squad’s top talent. West Ham had likely come to terms with the likelihood of Declan Rice’s departure. Given the sustained interest from Arsenal over several months.

Nonetheless, maintaining the cohesion of the rest of the squad held paramount significance following a lackluster domestic campaign the previous year. Nayef Aguerd, in particular, garnered attention, with Serie A champions Napoli contemplating a potential transfer.

Nayef Aguerd being a significant figure for West Ham

The £30 million center-back holds a pivotal role in Moyes’ plans. Evident when he swiftly returned to the lineup against Luton Town right after seeing a card against Chelsea. Notably, he has already opened his goal-scoring account, underscoring his significance for West Ham Europa League campaign this year.

Aouna, in a social media post amidst the rumors of Aguerd’s potential transfer to Saudi Arabia, clarified, “It was Nayef Aguerd who declined the move to [Saudi Arabia], not the other way around.” This news will surely bring joy to West Ham fans, knowing that Aguerd has rejected a summer transfer.

Even though the club secured Konstantinos Mavropanos as a backup option, Aguerd’s partnership alongside Kurt Zouma has been instrumental in West Ham’s unbeaten streak so far this season.

Their current domestic performance stands in stark contrast to last season. And supporters of West Ham will be anxiously hoping that the international break hasn’t disrupted their momentum.
