Michael Golding is a Chelsea academy player who originally signed with the club from AFC Wimbledon. After leaving the Dons at the conclusion of his Under-12s season, the young player progressed through the Blues’ youth divisions. He is now playing on the fringes of Chelsea’s first team. The talent that AFC Wimbledon first nourished in Michael Golding has been refined by Chelsea to make him a centre midfielder. However, He has played as an attacking and holding midfielder too.
Golding is “very highly valued” among Chelsea’s staff. The midfielder, who was born in Kingston, has already excelled for the England Under-17 team, England Under-16 team and the England Under-15s. In the Chelsea academy, Michael Golding has won championships and has led the Blues at the youth level as captain. He has accumulated 19 caps to date, four goals, and three assists while also serving as England’s U17 captain. In May 2021, he debuted for England’s U15 team. In 2021, he also assisted in England’s U16 team winning the Val de Marne. He was the Player of the Tournament and helped Chelsea win the U16 National Tournament in 2021/22. He made 17 appearances for the Chelsea Under-18 team, scoring five goals and providing two assists.
In their Carabao Cup match against AFC Wimbledon, Pochettino intends to deploy a few of Chelsea’s academy standouts, with Golding possibly among them.
