About Football Express UK

West Ham United are in the market for a new defender. They have identified Stade Rennes defender Nayef Aguerd as a potential target. Moreover, they are ready to spend 30m for Aguerd in the Summer.

Aguerd has had a good season with Rennes as he has taken them to 4th place. They play in the Europa League next season however they finished 3pts less than a Champions League spot. West Ham have tried signing Aguerd previously however Rennes rejected the offer. This time around West Ham wants their man and are ready to spend the big bucks. West Ham will be hoping that Aguerd would be their first of many signings to come.

West Ham finished 7th in the 2021/22 Premier League season. They are into the qualifying stages of the European Conference League. West Ham have played amazing football this season however were unlucky several times throughout the season. They had a deep run in the Europa League as they lost to Frankfurt in the Semi-Final and went on to win the cup. Moreover, they had displayed amazing football however they lost out on a Europa League spot on the final game day.

West Ham: A good move?

Considering West Ham’s opportunities, It is unlikely Aguerd sees a potential move. West Ham are not in the Europa League and this would be a priority for Aguerd. Moreover, Rennes will play in the Europa League next Summer. He would feel better staying at Rennes than moving to West Ham.

However, West Ham are a club on the rise under David Moyes. Moyes has absolutely transformed the squad and West Ham looks like a team that could triumph against the bigger teams. Moreover, they have managed to play consistent quality football in a difficult league. Aguerd should see this as an opportunity to play in a better team as West Ham could win titles in the future.
