Tottenham are planning to lock down their star player Harry Kane to a new long-term contract. Kane has been the central figure of the Spurs’ team for a long time now. However, the striker is yet to win a trophy at the club. But that hasn’t stopped Kane from staying with his boyhood club for over a decade now. Spurs want to continue to reap the results of their asset and are ready to offer him a lucrative deal. Moreover, Kane too has repeatedly insisted that he would not mind staying at the club as long as they are ‘competitive’.

According to Italian journalist Marco Conterio, Tottenham are eyeing a 5-year extension for Harry Kane. Though the club last won a trophy in 2008, i.e. before Kane’s first-team debut they are quite confident that the striker will sign an extension. Harry Kane joined the Spurs’ Under-18s from the youth setup in 2009. However, despite his promotion to the first team in 2011 Kane endured multiple loan spells. But he has only experienced a rise in his form after finally being a regular player on the first team since 2013.

Harry Kane is open to staying at Tottenham despite exit attempts

Tottenham almost lost Harry Kane last summer after the ‘big guns’ came calling. Both Manchester United and Manchester City were heavily interested in signing Kane last summer. City were even ready to splash a massive £100 million to acquire the striker. However, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy placed a price tag of £150 million on Kane and refused to listen to anything less than that. As a result, United went for Cristiano Ronaldo who cost them a mere £20 million and City refrained from signing a striker.

Kane looked disappointed as he failed to pick up the pace in the 2021/22 season. However, Antonio Conte’s appointment changed the dynamics for the striker. Kane managed only 7 goals and an assist under Nuno Espirito Santo in 14 games. But Conte’s arrival saw Harry Kane smash a massive 20 goals and further assist 9 in 36 games for Tottenham. Conterio, chief editor for Italian outlet Tuttomercato has now confirmed that ‘Tottenham is trying to renew Harry Kane’s contract until 2027’.

Harry Kane is believed to be quite happy with Conte at the helm and is therefore ready to put stay at Tottenham. While talking to the Evening Standard Kane said,

“There is still a lot of work to do. I think the improvement has definitely been there since the gaffer came in to where we are now. But for sure I am enjoying it and I know the boys are enjoying working with him. I have said I am a big fan of his and we get on really well so of course it would be great for the club if he stays.”

Conte helped Harry Kane and Tottenham clinch the last berth for the Champions League by finishing 4th. Moreover, the North Londoners have already started working for the next season with Conte. Three transfers have already been completed in Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, and Yves Bissouma. Kane’s extension seems to be next on the agenda for Tottenham.
