The VAR referee called out for the worst mistake of the season so far

About Football Express UK

The VAR referee Mike Dean has been blasted for making the worst mistake in the Premier League so far. Meanwhile, the Premier League is midway through the season and some of the VAR decisions have been highly questionable.

Marcus Rashford’s equalizer against Man City was one of those controversial decisions which went in favor of Manchester United. Meanwhile, the Red Devils eventually went on to win the derby by 2:1.

However, Rashford’s goal wasn’t named the worst referee mistake of the season. For all intentions, it looked like Rashford was in an offside position. However, the officials decided that Rashford wasn’t interfering with the play.

This decision definitely sparked controversy and the football pundits certainly have split opinions.

Worst mistake made by the referee this season so far

The controversial decision in the derby between Man City and Man United has been one of the talking points this season. Meanwhile, former players and fans are adamant that the decision was wrong, but former referees backed the decision.

However, it is certainly not the first time that fans are not happy with the decisions of the officials. As per former referee Graham Poll, the decision to not send off Cristian Romero in the game against Chelsea was the worst decision of this season.

The Tottenham Hotspur defender was seen pulling the hair of Marc Cucurella at a corner, but VAR never intervened. In an interview with  Casinos EnLigne, Poll stated:

“Cristian Romero pulling Marc Cucurella’s hair going unpunished.”

To me that was one of the most obvious red cards you’ll see. Anthony Taylor was refereeing and didn’t see it. Mike Dean was the VAR official and I know he’s since said I got it wrong and said I’m sorry, but that’s not good enough.

For me Romero should have been sent off.

He was involved in too many incidents which were highlighted by the Sky Sports commentary team saying ‘he could be off here and if not this time he’s got to go next time.

He then made another two or three clear fouls and he was very lucky to stay in the pitch in my view. However because Arsenal won 2-0 the Arsenal fans don’t care and that’s how a referee can get lucky.”

Meanwhile, with some of these controversial decisions coming forth at the midway of the season, it remains to be seen how these decisions impact the teams for the rest of the season.
