Spanish National team opportunity for young Man United starlet

Manchester United

International breaks bring a halt to the club football, which many fans dislike. But International break provides opportunities for young players to shine for their National team and country. One such opportunity is being given to Man United’s young left back Alvaro Fernandez. The 20 year old will train withe Spanish Senior team for the first time. Due to fitness issues faced by Jose Gaya, the Spanish coaching staff handed Alvaro his first senior call-up. The Man United starlet currently plays for Spanish side Granada on loan. Sources claim that an outstanding performance against Xavi’s Barcelona earned him the place at Spanish National side.

Spanish Press has been praising the Man United starlet

The Spanish media has recently had heaps of praise for the young left back, and rightly so. He has been performing well for the LaLiga side. After a string of good performances in LaLiga, Eric Ten Hag is yet again in crosshairs for team selection. As an injury plagued United squad, could have used some reinforcements in the left back position. Interestingly, Fernandez was included in the pre-season squad, providing one assist, but it was not enough for the Man United manager to rely on him. Spanish media outlet AS commented on his performance vs Villareal,

“The superkid from Ferrol started as a long wing-back in a line of five. Very active, he helped in every corner. It feels like he’s more usable as a traditional left-back because he’s so good. He wore himself all over the field doing a lot of work. Sometimes too much.”

Alvaro’s career before his loan spell

Born in Ferrol, Galicia city of Spain, Fernández made his move to Real Madrid in 2017 after playing a few years at local clubs. In September 2020, Fernández joined Manchester United from Real Madrid, on a four year deal. The young player now has the chance to perform well for his country, and maybe that might convince Ten Hag to give the youngster a chance after his loan spell at Granada.
