On the Athletic’s “Why Always Us” podcast, journalist Sam Lee revealed that Leicester City turned down a loan deal from Manchester City for James Maddison on the final day of the transfer window.

But it appears that Man City were sufficiently interested in James Maddison. They wanted to bring him in as a deadline-day arrival on loan with a purchase option, which Leicester rejected.

“I got an iMessage on my computer and it says, ‘[Man] City would’ve got [James] Maddison in today [deadline day] if they could, loan with option to buy was presented to Leicester. Response was no.’”
The cruel reality for the Foxes is that when premier league champions and other elite teams approach them for their finest players, all they can typically do is try to negotiate the best deal and let them go.
