Silvestre says £43m striker can be a better signing for Arsenal than Toney

Ivan Toney

The Arsenal have been struggling to score goals for the last six weeks now, and their need for a new number nine is more evident than ever.

Ivan Toney is the player that has been most strongly linked with a move to Arsenal as of late,

But speaking to GGRecon, Mikael Silvestre has suggested another centre-forward that Arsenal should sign instead.

Indeed, the former Arsenal defender stated that he thinks Victor Osimhen would be a better signing for Arsenal than Toney at this point.

Osimhen can be better than Toney for Arsenal

Silvestre shared his verdict on the £43m striker.

“Yes, I think he would be. In my eyes, Victor’s a more complete striker than Ivan Toney.

“I believe his style would be better suited to Arsenal too. As soon as Osimhen joined Napoli from Lille,

He needed six months to adapt and then after that he became a real threat and scored a lot of goals,” Silvestre said.

“He was key to Napoli winning the Serie A title last season and for the reasons I’ve provided,

I would prefer Arsenal to sign Osimhen over Ivan Toney.”

On the surface, you would say that Osimhen is the better player than Toney based on what he’s been doing in Italy.

However, it would be remiss to pretend that scoring goals in Serie A always translates well to the Premier League.

The likes of Andriy Shevchenko, Romelu Lukaku (in recent years), and Gonzalo Higuain have all failed to make the grade in England after being superstars in Italy, and there’s a risk that Osimhen could do the same.

At least Arsenal would know what they’re getting from Toney, he’s Premier League proven

And knows how to navigate this league, and while Osimhen could be a bona fide gamechanger,

There’s also the risk that he doesn’t settle in England and struggles to make the grade.

This is certainly an interesting debate, and it’s tough to decide who would be the better signing for Gunners.
