Rio Ferdinand thinks World Class players have worsened under Ten Hag

Rio Ferdinand

Man United have brought in two world class players from Real Madrid over the past few seasons. One of them being Raphael Varane, who arrived at the Old Trafford in August 2021. The French defender had been phenomenal throughout his career at the Santiago Bernabeu. Varane won 4 Champions League during his 10-year tenure at the Los Blancos and a World Cup with France in 2018. Being a decorated and proven defender in the top level, Varane was expected to bring defensive stability to the United squad. But Raphael Varane has not performed on his expected level ever since joining the Red Devils. Whereas, Casemiro recently joined the Red Devils in summer of 2022 after a Champions League winning season with Real Madrid. For a €70m fee the defensive midfielder did not play up to his price tag, he scored some crucial goals for the team initially. But his performances gradually declined and eventually he got injured. Rio Ferdinand talked about this issue on his podcast.

Rio Ferdinand on Ten Hag and his impact on players

Man United legend Rio Ferdinand was talking about the current form of Man United in the Premier League after their inconsistent results. With reports of unrest in the dressing room caused due to Erik Ten Hag, Ferdinand reflected on the form of players under him. He claimed that none of the world class players brought in by Man United have performed as expected, rather they all have worsened under Ten Hag. He said on FIVE,

“If you look at it, what player has gone to Man United and got better? Varane has got worse, Casemiro has gone backwards now, their value and worth. Bruno is the only one who you’d get good money for. He’s the only one, who else? Wan-Bissaka, you ain’t getting £50 million for Wan-Bissaka. You ain’t getting what they paid for Dalot. I’m sure. Amad Diallo… I could go through them all. I don’t know who comes in. Would you get the same money for Hojlund? No. Sancho? No. I could keep going… Van de Beek.”
