Nicolas Jackson scored in Friday night’s 3-0 victory over Luton Town for Chelsea, and Mauricio Pochettino has tipped him to grow into “one of the best strikers in the Premier League”. Raheem Sterling’s brace and a spectacular goal from Nicolas Jackson gave Chelsea their first win under Mauricio Pochettino, as they defeated Luton Town 3-0 at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea Boss Pochettino believes in Nicolas Jackson’s potential
Few anticipated that Jackson, a £32 million summer signing from Villarreal, would take over as Chelsea’s primary striker right away, but he has done so after summer transfers for Victor Osimhen and other players fell through. After coming back from a major injury last season, the 22-year-old player continued to play in La Liga. The Senegalese scored 10 goals, which prompted Chelsea to buy him in June. However Jackson quickly established himself at Chelsea by scoring twice in the preseason. But after two awful performances in opening two games, fans started to doubt his abillity. Still he came back stronger as the Blues defeated Luton Town 3-0 at home on Friday night. The young senegal international scored his first Chelsea goal in a match in the 75th minute.
The Argentine coach was impressed by his outstanding play and praised him with delightful words after his bright start.
“We knew Nicolas Jackson’s quality when we signed him, we saw that before. It is not that we ask him to run and press the ball, he is quality in the way he recovers the ball, but he also can finish,” Pochettino stated.
“It is only a matter of time, once he settles into the Premier League, he will show it more. Nicolas Jackson has top quality. I have no doubt that he can become one of the greatest strikers in the Premier League.”
Chelsea coach praises the youngster’s talent and work ethic
Chelsea supporters have likely noticed that Jackson appears to be a complete striker with great strength, talent, and work ethic. The Chelsea manager Pochettino has previously shown his admiration for his first-choice center-forward. The Argentine revealed his opinions regarding Jackson to The Athletic two days prior to the Luton game. The Argentine said:
“Really good. He’s still young but he has the character and capacity to improve quickly. He’s going to score lots of goals. His work ethic on the pitch, how he presses, his quality when he drives the ball and his technique when he’s running at intensity is really unbelievable. He’s going to be fantastic for us.”
