Pep Guardiola demands more from Manchester City

Chelsea Transfer Guardiola

Following his team’s 4-2 victory over Tottenham on Thursday, Guardiola gave a spectacular post-game interview. He called Manchester City “happy flowers” who lack the guts and desire to win this season. He also criticized the club’s fans.

On Sunday, his team gave him a reaction as they cruised to a 3-0 victory over Wolves. They closed the gap on league leaders Arsenal to just two points. Arsenal later defeated Manchester United 3-2 to reclaim the lead at the top of the standings.

The pressure that the Premier League title battle is putting on Guardiola this season may be evidenced by his stunning outburst earlier in the week.

Manchester City are not performing well. Guardiola is displeased. He has privately said that his success would be more appreciated if it were with Manchester United.

Guardiola demands intensity and mentality from the Manchester City squad

What was key about his press conference was that he’s still determined to do better even when City are arguably performing well.

In the end, this is the reason he is one of the top managers around; his energy and drive have enabled him to achieve the highest level of success.

He will be hoping for a response from not only his players but also the audience.

Guardiola didn’t enjoy the boos from the crowd on Thursday. It’s understandable why the smallest setback would fuel some people’s resentment when you’ve had so much success.

In contrast to the other teams the Spaniard has led and its neighbors United, City also lacks a long history.

Their past ownership controversies have considerably dampened their success and caused supporters of other clubs to criticize their spending abilities. However, Guardiola is creating history for City, and if they can close the present gap with Arsenal, he might get the recognition he seeks.
