Nine players Ralf Rangnick wanted to sign for Manchester United

Ralf Rangnick

We know that Ralf Rangnick’s tenure in Manchester United wasn’t a successful one. However, the German did try to set up a brighter future for the club. The 65-year-old came over as the Red Devils’ interim manager in November 2021 following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. However, Rangnick managed to steady the topsy turvy situation of United and help them secure a sixth-place finish. The ex-Leipzig coach also recommended that the Red Devils should sign as many as NINE elite players to strengthen the squad. United were in an untouchable and unputdownable position by now, if they would’ve signed those nine players Rangnick wanted.

Nine players Rangnick wanted for United:

One of them was Manchester City youngster Erling Haaland. Haaland then moved to City in summer 2022 and scored 52 times in 53 matches last season.

Haaland is not the only rival player Rangnick suggested to the United board. Josko Gvardiol , who moved to City from RB Leipzig for £77million in the summer, was on Rangnick’s radar. Also, the former United boss monitored the young Argentinian, Julian Alvarez to sign for the club.

In addition to Haaland, Rangnick wanted the Red Devils to sign Alvaro Morata and Dusan Vlahovic . Although Morata struggled during his time at Chelsea, Rangnick felt him as an asset for United. Whereas, Vlahovic was one of Europe’s most wanted forwards that time after he had an impressive season at Fiorentina. He then later signed for Juventus.

Rangnick also preferred Enzo Fernandez , much before he came into limelight while scoring for Argentina, who at the time was playing at River Plate. He later went to Chelsea.

Luis Diaz was the final player that Rangnick recommended. Diaz joined Liverpool in a deal worth £37.5m plus add-ons and the Colombian winger has impressed for the Reds since, helping them win the Carabao Cup and FA Cup in his first ever season.

These were the nine players Rangnick wanted to welcome into United . And if the Glazers had listened to his advice back then, today’s scenario would have been quite different.
