Newcastle could be the preferred destination for Kalvin Phillips

Newcastle United have received a boost in their quest to sign Kalvin Phillips. This is from Manchester City. That is according to 90min. It has reported how the former Leeds United midfielder views a potential move to Newcastle.

Well, according to 90min, Newcastle United are interested in signing Kalvin Philips. This is from Premier League rivals Manchester City in the January transfer window this season.

Newcastle are reportedly “very keen” on Phillips and want him on a loan deal. But they are also willing to do a loan + option to buy deal.

The report has noted that Newcastle “are emerging as Phillips’s preferred option should he leave the Etihad Stadium”. This is in the middle of the season.

Liverpool have been linked with Phillips as well. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta wants him as a potential replacement in his team.

I believe that they should still sign Phillips. The midfielder is one of the best English players around. He would replace the banned Sandro Tonali straightaway and would slot right in. Callum Wilson rates him highly from his time in national duty with him.

True, the 27-year-old has failed to make a huge impact at City. But we saw when he was at Leeds just how good and combative he is in the midfield.

Phillips is also a regular in the national England squad. At 27, Phillips’s best years are ahead of him. And I believe that Newcastle should bring him to St. James’ Park as soon as possible.
