Nathan Ake may soon return to Chelsea

Nathan Ake

Chelsea are said to be in advanced talks with Manchester City over Dutch defender Nathan Ake. The West London club should be signing two center-backs in this current transfer window. Both of their seasoned defenders Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen have departed from the club this summer.

Dutchman Matthijs De Ligt is still been linked to a move to the English powerhouse. However, Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are said to be now in pole position to sign the young defender from Juventus. A probable return to Chelsea for Ake has gained momentum over the recent days. Moreover, the Times reports that the London club are in an advanced stage to acquire Ake during this transfer window.

The report adds that both the teams are still to finalize a price. However, there have been reports of a transfer, whereas potential terms have been agreed upon. Ake initially moved to Chelsea from Feyenoord back in 2011. However, he could not make a mark in a Chelsea shirt as he featured only in 17 games across competitions.

The 27-year-old had loan spells for Reading, Watford, and Bournemouth while at Chelsea. He had a good time at Bournemouth after which Manchester City paid around £41m to acquire him. Ake was part of the team which won two Premier League titles and a League Cup while playing at the Etihad. However, he has failed to be the first choice man of Pep Guardiola here at City.

The Dutch defender was also unused in both legs against Real Madrid in the semi-final of the Champions League. Moreover, he was not picked up in the latter stages of the inaugural competition despite City’s injury woes. Ake featured in 40 games for the club scoring on 4 occasions.

Chelsea’s other transfer targets for this transfer window

Chelsea still have not a made transfer this season. However, they would soon be signing a striker to replace Romelu Lukaku after he returned to Italian giants Inter Milan. Moreover, Thomas Tuchel is yet to make a decision on the loan players Connor Gallagher and talented Armando Broja. Both of the players had a good campaign with their respective teams.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Robert Lewandowski are reportedly the leading targets for Chelsea this summer.
