Napoli planning to cancel release clause of defender coveted by Manchester United

Manchester United

South Korean defender Kim Min-Jae is one of Napoli’s stand-out performers this season. Gli Azzurri have taken their football to the next level, with Napoli firmly in contention for the Scudetto. Alongside Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Victor Oshimen, Kim Min-Jae is a crucial player behind Napoli’s recent triumphs.

Napoli currently stands 8 points clear at the top of the table. They have not had a single loss, but have 13 wins and 2 draws. This is particularly impressive considering the sales they have had to make during the last transfer window. They are also doing well in the Champions League, where they will face Eintracht Frankfurt in the Round of 16.

The Red Devils are currently undergoing a rebuild under new boss Erik ten Hag. With a wish to bolster his defense, the 26-year-old Korean international has emerged as a potential target. Kim Min-Jae arrived at Napoli from Turkish side Fenerbache, in a deal that included a release clause of £39m.

The current situation at Napoli

Since his arrival in the summer of 2022, Kim Min-Jae has had an immense influence on Napoli. Real Madrid and PSG, along with Manchester United, are interested in the Korean international.

Currently, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis wants to offer a new deal to the defender. There is also a desire to have the release clause removed or increased. For a young, ambitious Napoli side, they must retain key players like Min-Jae.

Kim Min-Jae has also had a fruitful World Cup with South Korea. Had the release clause not been an issue, Napoli could have gained a high price from a sale.

Manchester United is currently prioritizing improvements in attack or midfield right now. Cody Gakpo and Rafael Leao are two players with strong links to United as well as other clubs.
