Michail Antonio wanted Dimitri Payet to stay at West Ham

Dimitri Payet

Michail Antonio wished West Ham didn’t sell Dimitri Payet to Marseille.

Dimitri Payet was a magical player at West Ham United

Payet was the best player during his 18-month spell for the Hammers. After a move to Upton Park Payet was scoring goals for fun. In his 59 appearances for the Hammers, Payet scored 15 goals and 22 assists.

Not only at Upton Park but he displayed numerous magical performances all over England. The Frenchman was a great signing for the Hammers.

Michail Antonio names the best player he has played with

The forward is a big fan of Dimitri Payet. Antonio speaking on  Goal’s YouTube channel when asked who’s the best player he has played alongside he said,

“The best player I’ve played with is Dimitri Payet, the guy was magic to be fair, he could create a goal out of nothing, get an assist and if we got a free-kick he could score it as well.”

Payet was released by West Ham to Marseille in January 2017 for £25 million, however, after having a disagreement with Hammers boss Slaven Bilic. With his exit, fans felt they were betrayed by the Frenchman.

After a few years, Payet shared the real reason why he left West Ham. He said,

“It was a choice I made, a personal choice and a family-based choice as well. Since I left West Ham I have stayed at Marseille, I haven’t gone to any other club and don’t intend on going to any other club, so it wasn’t leaving for the sake of leaving. It was a personal decision, a family decision and yeah, it was a pretty brutal break I suppose when I left, that’s true, but I hope over the course of the years West Ham fans have come to understand why I left, I would certainly like and hope to think that.”

Payet wanted to be close to his family, but there’s no surprise we all wanted him to stay in the premier league. Michail Antonio still misses Payet. Both of them would have caused a lot of trouble for the defenders in the Premier League.
