Manchester United talisman at the risk of suspension

Erik ten Hag

Manchester United will face Reading on Saturday in the fourth Round of the FA Cup. Bruno Fernandes will be at risk of suspension if he is involved in this tie.

Bruno’s impressive form coming into this game

Bruno has been in incredible form leading up to this tie. He has scored 3 goals and 2 assists in the last 6 games. He is finally getting the goal contributions he was missing out on.

However, Bruno was booked less than half an hour into United’s 3-1 victory over Everton at Old Trafford. According to FA regulations, if a player’s club joins the competition in the third round, any player who receives two yellow cards will be suspended for one match. This means Bruno will be suspended for the subsequent tie if Manchester United wins but Bruno picks up a booking. The deadline for avoiding a ban after receiving two yellow cards in the FA Cup does not come until the quarter-finals (sixth round). United is still two victories away from qualifying for the Quarter-Final.

Does Bruno’s imminent risk of suspension affect Ten Hag’s plans?

Manchester United will be facing Reading who are placed 14th in the Championship. They are expected to go through considering Reading doesn’t pull the rabbit out of the hat. It is expected Ten Hag will rotate the team vigorously tonight even though Ten Hag takes every opponent with utmost seriousness. The fixture congestion this month means Bruno might be on the bench tonight. Eriksen is expected to play in the no.10 position if Bruno is benched. No other United player was booked during the win over Everton earlier this month, therefore no one else is in danger of receiving an FA Cup suspension in the subsequent round if the Reds win and go to the fifth round.
