Manchester United manager Ten Hag unhappy with failed transfers

Manchester United

Erik ten Hag understands that he is not in a position to make any further summer signings for Manchester United. The prospect of recruiting high-quality replacement is in the gutter due to Harry Maguire’s decision to stay at Old Trafford. Thereby closing the door on their pursuit of a suitable replacement.

Once again, Manchester United has demonstrated their support for Erik ten Hag by providing funds for his rebuilding efforts this summer. This marks the second phase of his reconstruction plan. During his initial summer at United, he got permission to utilize approximately £216 million. That is for recruitment purposes, which led to the arrival of six new players.

The substantial investment made in the past met with significant improvements in on-field performance. However, the current objective is to elevate the club to a higher level. There is a mounting sense of optimism that Manchester United can have yet another impressive season. The acquisitions of Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund are to bolster the team’s goal-scoring capabilities. Furthermore, the inclusion of Andre Onana as the goalkeeper should introduce a new dimension to the club’s play, a facet that his predecessor David De Gea wasn’t able to offer.

Due to the acquisitions of all three players, Erik ten Hag expended his budget of £175 million. Although he remains approximately £5 million below that threshold. Consequently, any forthcoming signings must be funded through the proceeds generated by outgoing departures.

Manchester United fails to offload Maguire

Nonetheless, the inability to successfully transfer Maguire out of the club has had the most significant influence on Manchester United’s intentions to make additional signings. Harry Maguire, the English defender, has experienced a decrease in his standing within the squad under Erik ten Hag. Maguire received information that he can depart if he can secure a suitable opportunity elsewhere.

In an effort to facilitate a potential transfer, Manchester United has reduced their initial valuation of Maguire from £50 million to a mere £30 million. Offloading him would not only bolster the club’s financial resources but also alleviate the burden of his £200,000 weekly wages, thereby aiding the club in adhering to Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations.

Unfortunately, discussions between Maguire and West Ham appears to reach an impasse due to Maguire’s wage demands. As a result of this breakdown, West Ham are now focusing their efforts on an alternative target in Konstantinos Mavropanos.
