Manchester United is said to be unconfident about signing Brian Brobbey during this summer transfer window.

The Dutchman spent the latter half of the 2021-22 season on loan at Ajax under now United manager Erik Ten Hag.

Moreover, there were reports that the striker is a target of the Red Devils for this season.

However, the Manchester United Evening News reports, that United believes that Ajax will win the race to sign the youngster from RB Leipzig.

Leipzig is said to be eager to move him on.

Brobbey caught the eye of Ajax authorities last season who found the back of the net 7 times out of the 13 appearances that he made for the club in all competitions.

Ten Hag even contacted the player for a possible move to Old Trafford. However, a deal with Ajax is said to be nearing completion.

Brobbey’s asking price is as little as € 15 million (£12.7m).

The 20-year-old joined Ajax in 2010, after which he progressed through the ranks of the Dutch youth system.

He debuted with the club in 2020 and scored six goals in the 19 matches that he played. After that, he moved on to Leipzig.

Manchester United looks to be light on the final third of the pitch

Edinson Cavani, Juan Mata, and Jesse Lingard have all been allowed to leave on free transfers this summer.

Cristiano Ronaldo has also informed the club authorities of his wish to leave the club this summer.

Anthony Martial is back at Old Trafford after an unsuccessful loan stint at Sevilla. Therefore, he could start through the middle in Tuesday’s game against Liverpool.

Ronaldo’s exit could prove to be fatal for United as they are desperately short on strikers.

Mason Greenwood is still suspended by the club.

The English powerhouses have still now only made one signing in Tyrell Malacia. However, he plays in the left-back position.

A deal with Christian Eriksen is still not confirmed. Moreover, Frenkie De Jong’s deal is also still hanging.
