According to reports, Premier League giants Manchester United are scouting young French striker Hugo Ekitike ahead of the summer transfer window. Manchester United are set for a major squad rebuild at the start of next season, with Erik ten Hag leading the rebuild.
A lot of Manchester United stars are out of contract in the summer and are set to leave the club on a free transfer. Jesse Lingard, Nemanja Matić, Edinson Cavani and Juan Mata are all expected to leave the club. While French star Paul Pogba is also expected to leave the club on a free transfer in the summer.
The striker situation at the club is miserable. Cristiano Ronaldo’s future is still up in the air, with Manchester United missing out on Champions League football. While Edinson Cavani is set to leave the club on a free transfer. Anthony Martial’s future at the club is still under massive debate.
Reports last month even suggested that the red devils were ready to offer the French forward in a swap deal for Argentian forward Lautaro Martínez. While interim manager Ralf Rangnick has confirmed that the club need to sign at least two new strikers in the summer transfer window. Ralf Rangnick said:
“Cristiano isn’t a central striker or does not want to play in that position,” “It’s obvious the club needs at least two new strikers who give this team more quality and more options. I wouldn’t even call it wingers.”
“Two strikers and modern strikers, that do not necessarily have to be wingers. If you look into international football, there aren’t many top teams who still play with two strikers. Most play with either three strikers or a false nine.” he added.
Is Hugo Ekitike a good option for Manchester United?
The 19-year-old has made his breakthrough into the first team in the French league this term. He has made a total of 25 appearances across all competitions this term. In this time he has recorded a decent goal return of ten goals and four assists. (stats via Transfermarkt)
Manchester United are also linked with Darwin Núñez and Lautaro Martínez. Both the strikers are set to cost upwards of €80 million. While Hugo Ekitike is priced at around £13million by the French outfit. Erik ten Hag has a track record of drastically improving youngsters in his career. The Manchester United faithful will certainly be hoping that the new manager can certainly improve the youngster and make him into one of the best strikers in the world.
