Manchester United eyeing a deal for Atletico star Joao Felix

Felix Chelsea Boehly Liverpool

Manchester United may secure another big-money signing through a deal for Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix. They may be looking at Felix as a long-term signing to strengthen their frontline.

Felix has not prospered as hoped in Madrid, primarily due to a conflict between play style and tactics. His own game has several drastic differences from Diego Simeone’s structured, defensive tactics. Agent Jorge Mendes has been tasked with finding a new club for Felix. His departure from Atletico Madrid could happen as early as January.

Felix arrived at the Spanish capital from Benfica in a hefty £113m deal in 2019. He was seen as a mainstay in the Atletico side for years to come but has struggled recently. The Portuguese international has reportedly decided that he wants a move away and the management may be willing to give in. Atletico Madrid would be looking to get a substantial return from a sale, especially due to economic concerns after crashing out of the Champions League.

What will Joao Felix offer Manchester United?

Many clubs, including Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, PSG, and Bayern Munich, have links to Felix. United, in particular, appears to be the frontrunner in this chase.

Felix would offer a new breath of creativity to the United attack, replacing the departed Cristiano Ronaldo. His presence would particularly impact Marcus Rashford’s play greatly. Felix could play a similar role to that of Dusan Tadic in Erik Ten Hag’s old Ajax team. Considered to be an “outstanding target” by Jurgen Klopp, Felix may prove to be a decisive factor in Manchester United’s pursuit of a Top 4 spot.

Felix would likely cost upwards of £100m, especially after splendid performances at the World Cup. Manchester United is well known for a tendency to splurge, so would likely be able to pay a lucrative fee.
