Douglas Luiz joined Aston Villa from Manchester City in 2019, and it seems that the defending Premier League champions are keen on bringing the Brazilian star to the Etihad Stadium.
So, what is the situation involving Manchester City, Douglas Luiz and Aston Villa?
What’s the story?
Well, according to journalist Dean Jones in GiveMeSport, Manchester City are interested in signing Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz.
Jones has reported that City are on the hunt for a new midfielder and are really keen on bringing Joshua Kimmich from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2024.
City manager Pep Guardiola worked with Kimmich at Bayern.
However, the Citizens, who won the Premier League, the UEFA Champions League and the FA Cup last season, are not putting all of their eggs in one basket.
According to Jones, City have identified Luiz as an alternative to Kimmich.
The GiveMeSport journalist has claimed that “Douglas Luiz of Aston Villa is a player
That City have tracked since earlier problems with a work permit restricted him from playing for them between 2017 and 2019.”.
Jones, though, has noted that City think that it would be “almost impossible” for them to sign the 25-year-old Brazil international in the January transfer window.

Douglas Luiz could not play for Manchester City due to work permit issues.
City manager Pep Guardiola rates the 25-year-old highly, though.
Football.London has previously quoted Guardiola as saying that
Luiz is “a guy who’s clever with the ball” and is “physically strong”.
As reported by Sky Sports in July 2019, Villa paid City £15 million in transfer fees for Luiz.
The Brazilian was 21 at the time.
He has since developed and grown a lot at Villa.
The 25-year-old is about to enter his best years now.
Luiz has made 148 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career.
The Brazil international midfielder has scored 14 goals and given 13 assists in those games.
