Liverpool set eyes on Manchester United-linked Antony

About Football Express UK

Liverpool are said to have made inquiries about Ajax winger Antony.

United had strong links with the young Brazilian winger from the opening of the transfer window. Moreover, the coming of Erik Ten Hag to Old Trafford has heightened the speculations. Ten Hag is said to have a massive likeness to the player from the time he managed him at Ajax.

However, in recent weeks United have been busy finalizing deals with Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez. Moreover, their pursuit for Frenkie De Jong is still on. Ajax’s asking fee for Antony is said to be a huge hurdle for the Red Devils. The Dutch powerhouses are valuing the 22-year-old winger at around €80million (67.8m).

Football Insider now reports that Liverpool have contacted Ajax in order to sign the crafty winger during the ongoing transfer window. The report also adds that the Merseyside club have also no intention of signing the player with such a huge fee. The reason is that they have already spent a huge amount on signing Darwin Nunez.

Chelsea also have shown interest in the player. Antony has his contract running up to 2024.

Antony had an impressive season last year at Amsterdam. He scored 12 goals and 10 assists from the 33 appearances that he featured in all competitions.

What did Ajax’s coach Alfred Schreuder have to say about Antony?

ESPN quoted Schreuder saying,

It is clear that we want to keep that boy. I think he still has a contract until 2025. I really want to work with him; he knows that, and the club knows that too.”

Antony had been on the sidelines because of an ankle problem.

Speaking about his fitness the coach said,

He is still recovering from his injury. But I think the next few weeks are important. For his injury, we hope it improves quickly. I assume that he will be fit at the end of the preparation.”
