By publicly offering £111 million for Moises Caicedo, Liverpool has revealed their highest player budget to the market. As a result, acquiring additional midfielders may have to incur higher costs compared to the past.
Neil Jones revealed to the press:
“Liverpool went to PSV in January and bought Cody Gakpo and there was a reason why they were so keen to sign the player. Firstly, they liked the player. Secondly, they worried that Ibrahim Sangare and Madueke would be sold which would then impact the price PSV would be prepared to sell Gakpo at.”
“So Liverpool clearly see Sangare as someone who will move on to a bigger club. Whether he’s ready for the Liverpool level remains to see. It’s a big step from the Eredivisie. He’s played in a few different positions and performed well, and he’s been linked with Liverpool before.”
According to PSV insider Rik Elfrink, there is a possibility for the Reds to secure Ibrahim Sangare’s services. That is after satisfying his £32 million release clause. This approach would enable them to avoid both club negotiations and the potential ‘Liverpool tax’ that competing clubs might apply in the market.
Liverpool to chase for the services of Ibrahim Sangare
Back in January, the 25-year-old had a future at a ‘larger club’. That is despite the departures of Cody Gakpo and Noni Madueke. This suggests that there might still be an opportunity for Liverpool to engage in negotiations with the Dutch team.
Certainly, fulfilling the clause would eliminate the need to engage directly with the Eredivisie team. However, maintaining a solid rapport with them could potentially lead to the player’s willingness to transition to Merseyside.
Considering that there’s a player performing effectively in a lower-tier league currently accessible, it could be advantageous to include him in our array of choices for the squad. This is particularly significant considering the urgency of our current circumstances.
