Liverpool may hijack Everton’s signing of Idrissa Gueye

Liverpool may hijack Everton’s efforts in signing Idrissa Gueye.

The Paris Saint-Germain midfielder has been heavily linked to the Toffees this summer. However, a move to Goodison Park has been stalled despite the player agreeing a wage cut. That said, Everton are still the top destination for the 32-year-old.

However, some say that Liverpool may hijack the deal and bring the Sengalese international to Anfield. Such a move would be similar to their signing of Luis Diaz last January.

Diaz looked set to join Conte’s Spurs in January, until Jürgen Klopp and Julian Ward offered him a place in Liverpool’s attack. The Columbian forward was only happy to accept. Diaz has prospered at Anfield, and has proven to be an ideal replacement after the departure of Mane.

Gueye is one of 15 players PSG have put up for sale, in a list which includes the likes of Mauro Icardi, Julian Draxler, Georgino Wijnaldum and Ander Herrera among others. Gueye has proven himself in the Premier League before, with tenures at both Everton and Aston Villa.

Liverpool may be a bit desperate in signing another midfielder

The season has started, and Liverpool are struggling with a serious injury problem. During their match with Fulham, key midfielder Thiago Alcântara received a hamstring injury. He joins midfielder Curtis Jones and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, striker Diego Jota and backup goalie Caoimhin Kelleher on the sidelines.

While Klopp may continue to rely on Harvey Elliot and the versatile James Milner, a new signing may also remedy this problem. Despite Jürgen Klopp’s insistence that Liverpool are unlikely to make more transfers, they continue to make moves in the transfer market.

On the surface, Gueye may seem as a suitable temporary replacement. However, the Sengalese international’s age and temperament may be different from what Klopp is looking for.

There have been strong links between Dortumund’s Jude Bellingham and a move to Liverpool. However, the 19-year old is not available for a move until next season.

Other midfielders who Liverpool may be interested in are Sporting Lisbon’s Matheus Nunes, Leicester’s Youri Tielemans, Salzburg’s Luka Sucic and Inter Milan’s Marcelo Brozovic.
