Liverpool interest might end up joining Manchester City this summer

About Football Express UK

In January, Liverpool reportedly considered pursuing a deal for RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol. However, the latest developments suggest that Gvardiol could potentially join Manchester City instead. According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, who provided updates on Josko Gvardiol, Liverpool holds admiration for the centre-back. However, Gvardiol’s price range is reportedly beyond what Liverpool is willing to pay, making a potential transfer less feasible for the club.

“For Gvardiol, they [Liverpool] love him,” said the journalist. “Already in January, they explored the conditions of the deal. The reality is that this is too expensive. After they left the race for Jude Bellingham because he was too expensive, I don’t see Liverpool going to spend €100m [around £86m] on a centre-back.”

In a recent Twitter update, Fabrizio Romano stated that Manchester City is actively advancing with their pursuit of Josko Gvardiol. The club is reportedly making significant progress in securing a deal for the talented defender.

“Understand Manchester City are advancing on Josko Gvardiol deal on player side. Negotiations on personal terms are progressing well, same as [Mateo] Kovacic. Leipzig will only sell Gvardiol for huge fee otherwise they are prepared to keep him for one more season.”

What makes it difficult for Liverpool to sign Josko Gvardiol?

Realistically, it appears that Liverpool faced financial constraints that made it challenging for them to pursue the signing of Josko Gvardiol, both in January and in the current summer transfer window. While Liverpool holds a high regard for the centre-back, his price tag is reportedly beyond their means.

RB Leipzig may remain steadfast in their demand for an exorbitant fee for Josko Gvardiol. Then, Manchester City might reassess the situation and deem the deal not worthwhile. In such a scenario, Liverpool could potentially have a chance to pursue the Croatian international. If Gvardiol stays at Leipzig for another season, it could provide Liverpool with an opportunity to allocate their budget towards acquiring him in the following year.

Liverpool’s hope lies in the prospect that Gvardiol remains available in the transfer market in the following year. However, the likelihood of such a scenario is uncertain. The club will have to monitor the situation closely. Thereby, assessing the feasibility of pursuing Gvardiol when the time is right.
