Liverpool in the process of signing young talents as midfield options

Liverpool

Renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Liverpool is actively pursuing additional midfield signings in the summer transfer window. This is regardless of any potential departures from the club. Romano specifically mentioned that Romeo Lavia is a definite target for Liverpool’s midfield reinforcement.

Recently, Naby Keita, James Milner, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all left Anfield as their contracts expired last month. However, Liverpool made positive moves in the transfer market after acquiring Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton and Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig. These signings are promising additions to the squad.

In an unexpected turn of events, recent reports have emerged linking both Jordan Henderson and Fabinho with potential moves to Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, there are speculations suggesting that Thiago could make a return to Barcelona before the start of the 2023/24 season.

Undoubtedly, Liverpool faced significant challenges in their midfield last season. With a notable lack of dynamism and quality in that area contributing to their fifth-place finish in the Premier League. However, potential drastic changes, such as the speculated departures of Henderson and Fabinho, and Thiago’s potential return to Barcelona, could have a significant impact. But it remains to be seen how the team will adapt and address these changes.

Who will Liverpool hope to sign this season?

A recent update has surfaced regarding Liverpool’s midfield situation. Indicating that the club’s incoming transfer activities are still ongoing and far from complete for the summer. This suggests that further signings or developments in the midfield position may be expected from the Merseyside club.

Lavia appears to be the primary target at the moment. There is belief that he has the potential to succeed Fabinho as the long-term option in the No. 6 position. Despite Southampton’s relegation to the Championship last season, Lavia performed admirably in that role. Averaging 2.1 tackles per match in the league. This showcases his ability to thrive in the defensive midfield position and makes him an appealing prospect for Liverpool.

The most prudent approach would be to sell one midfielder while retaining the other two, with the retained pair assuming roles as squad options rather than regular starters. This strategy allows for a balanced midfield setup, especially with the inclusion of Mac Allister and Szoboszlai. They are to seamlessly integrate into the first-choice starting lineup. It is also hoped that another new addition will join the squad to further enhance the midfield options.
