Liverpool eyeing Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips

According to rumours, Liverpool, one of the best teams in the Premier League, is interested in signing Kalvin Phillips. They rekindles their interest for the exceptional midfielder of Manchester City, during the current summer transfer window. This is because Liverpool were fully aware that a midfield revamp would be necessary going into the summer of 2023. Although Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Wataru Endo have been added to the team, Jurgen Klopp could employ a few more players in the midfield. Time is running out for Liverpool to bolster their lineup as the summer transfer window is about to close. Ryan Gravenberch of Bayern Munich and Cheick Doucoure of Crystal Palace are on their radar, and Phillips of Manchester City is now included.

Liverpool wants to add Kalvin Phillips in their squad

Earlier this summer, Newcastle United wanted to acquire Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City but were unsuccessful. Eddie Howe listed the 27-year-old as one of his midfield targets. At the beginning of the summer, he was in no mood to move out and join Newcastle, which was understandable. Under Pep Guardiola, he wished to compete for a position. Kalvin Phillips has made it clear that he wishes to remain and contend for a spot at Manchester City this season. He said in June that: “I came to Manchester City to win trophies and we won the trophies. But I didn’t play as much as I wanted to do. My intention is to stay there”. However things might take a u-turn now amid incoming interest from Liverpool.

While playing for Leeds United, the 27-year-old was among the most talented midfielders in the Premier League. Following a stellar performance for England at the 2020 Euros, Phillips secured a lucrative transfer to Manchester City last summer. The Englishman’s move to The Etihad, though, has not gone as planned. The midfield star has only made just a few appearances due to injuries and inconsistent performances.

Kalvin Phillips wants game-time this season

The Englishman doesn’t have good season so far. He has sat on the sidelines for the first two Premier League games, the UEFA Super Cup, and the Community Shield without playing a single minute. Thus, he might change his mind now after interest from Liverpool.

A new challenge could potentially do wonders for Phillips and resurrect his currently declining career. The 27-year-old might revive his fortunes and get back to his best with Jurgen Klopp’s assistance. The move may turn out to be advantageous for all sides given the Reds’ need for talented midfielder in the middle of the pitch. Although Phillips would be a wonderful addition, it is questionable whether he will provide Liverpool with all of the answers. The Reds require a second number six in addition to a dynamic midfielder. Despite Phillips’ talent, it is unrealistic to expect him to do everything.
