The Evening Standard claims that due to Crystal Palace’s high asking price, Liverpool may not be able to sign Cheick Doucoure. The Mali international was being touted as a possible target. However Jurgen Klopp drops interest for £70 million-rated midfielder as he already signed Ryan Gravenberch before the deadline.
Liverpool drops interest in Crystal Palace midfielder
Despite the high level of enthusiasm in the £70 million-rated midfielder at this late stage of the transfer season, Crystal Palace will probably retain Cheick Doucoure. The holding midfielder was a crucial member of the London team. Therefore they did not want to lose him at this point. After Liverpool missed out on Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, both midfielders finally joined Chelsea, Doucoure became an appealing target. To fend off bidders, Palace set a £70 million price tag on the Mali international. Their plan may have worked out because Liverpool will no longer pursue the player, despite rumours of an impending offer. A new holding midfielder was something Jurgen Klopp desperately needed for his team. Thus signing both Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch, Klopp no longer needs him.
This morning, Ryan Gravenberch landed in Merseyside to complete his transfer from Bayern Munich to Liverpool. Following a breakthrough in negotiations, the two clubs decided on a deal for the Dutchman on Thursday that might have cost up to €45 million. The Reds triggered Gravenberch to fly to England last night to finish the transfer operations, which included his medicals and signing a five-year deal.
Crystal Palace will be happy to retain their stars
Palace will now focus on retaining some of their special stars since the transfer window is about to close today. The London team is aware that clubs may still be interested in Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi. According to reliable reports, the pair, like Doucoure, are happy with the club and may decide to stay. Palace should view this window as a huge success if they are able to retain their most talented players. With Doucoure, Guehi, and Eze on the roster, this team might aim higher after holding on to Michael Olise earlier in the summer despite Chelsea’s interest.
