Leicester City is finally about to make their first transfer of the season

About Football Express UK

Leicester City has confirmed and announced the signing of the goalkeeper Alex Smithies.

The 32-year-old has signed a two-year deal. He arrives from Cardiff City as a free agent over the summer. He joins Leicester after a short spell at AFC Bournemouth.

Smithies has previously played for Huddersfield Town and Queen’s Park Rangers. He arrives at King’s Power Stadium as a third-choice goalkeeper behind Danny Ward and Daniel Iversen. He is Leicester’s first senior signing of the transfer window.

What do we know of Leicester City’s first signing?

After the departure of Kasper Schmeichel to Ligue 1 side OGC Nice on a three-year deal, Danny Ward has risen to take his place as Leicester’s first-choice keeper. The arrival of Smithies would allow young goalkeeper Jakub Stolarczyk to leave on loan. While Smithies is Leicester’s first senior team signing, former Aston Villa defender Paul Appiah also arrived for the under-21 side.

Manager Brendan Rodgers would be looking forward to completing another signing or two before the window ends. This is especially true after this night’s loss to Arsenal 4-2. The future of several key players such as Youri Tielemans and James Maddison is also in doubt, while Wesley Fofana is set to join Chelsea.
