How could Chelsea line-up with new signing Raheem Sterling in the 2022/23 season

Chelsea

Chelsea have almost completed the signing of Raheem Sterling from Manchester City with the medicals completed as well ahead of the pre-season.

Sterling is set to make his move to the London-based club and work under the likes of Thomas Tuchel. It is reported that the agreed fee is in the region of £50m which includes a five-year deal with Chelsea.

The forward was keen to make a move to Stamford Bridge this summer to get regular game-time next season. Sterling was certain that staying with the Mancunian side would not help solve his case, especially with the new signings made.

Meanwhile, Chelsea were on the lookout for a forward who can get them goals in most of the matches. Moreover, the Blues endured a nasty blow not registering enough goals due to their front line not giving their best.

Here is how Chelsea could line-up in the forthcoming season

Having signed Sterling and Tuchel engineering a move for Nathan Ake, here is how the new line-up could look like.

Defence

With the exits of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen, the defence could look slightly different this season.

The likes of Azpilicueta potentially leaving the club this summer has left the club with not too many options. Reece James, Ben Chilwell, and Thiago Silva are players the boss could turn to, however, Matthijs de Ligt could join Chelsea.

With the inclusion of the Juventus defender, the gaffer could use-

  • Thiago Silva/ Trevoh Chalobah
  • Matthijs de Ligt
  • Reece James
  • Ben Chilwell/ Nathan Ake

Midfield

N’Golo Kanté could be the main man in the midfield and he would look to maintain consistency, unlike last season. The three in the midfield would line up as-

  • Mason Mount
  • Mateo Kovačić
  • N’Golo Kanté

There could be a possibility of Chilwell and James playing the midfield if the Blues boss moves to a 3-5-2.

Attack

Chelsea were plotting a move for Leeds United winger Raphinha, however, that deal seems to have fallen off. Now having signed Sterling, the gaffer will look to pair him with the likes of Kai Havertz.

The front line would look something like-

  • Raheem Sterling
  • Kai Havertz
  • Christian Pulisic

Not to forget, Mason Mount can also rotate and play in the front giving them more options in the attack. Moreover, Chelsea is reportedly interested in making a bid for Manchester United No. 7, Cristiano Ronaldo this summer!

Assuming that transfer goes through, the attacking front would explode in the next season at the Bridge. But there is still no agreement between the two clubs and a long way to go regarding the Ronaldo deal.

Keeper

No surprise Edouard Mendy will be the chosen one in the keeper’s position.
