“He’ll keep developing”- Gareth Southgate sends message to Conor Gallagher amid transfer links

English national football team manager Gareth Southgate has sent a positive message to Conor Gallagher amid Aston Villa transfer links.

Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher was loaned out to Crystal Palace last campaign to get regular game time at Selhurst Park. The midfielder had an impressive stint with the club amassing eight goals in 39 appearances and providing nine assists across all competitions.

Gallagher’s impressive season with the Eagles has alerted Aston Villa gaffer, Steven Gerrard. The Villa boss intends to bring in the player this summer in the transfer window to bolster the midfield.

Southgate word on Gallagher

Gallagher is set to return to the Bridge this summer before the pre-season kicks off. The player wants to improve and work under the likes of Thomas Tuchel and cement his spot as a regular.

However, the Chelsea boss made it clear that Gallagher will need to earn his spot to make the cut. The 22-year-old’s future is up in the air once again as the last season but Villa is interested this time.

Moreover, with the Blues, Gallagher could slip down the pecking order as Tuchel has his midfield pretty much set. The likes of Jorginho, N’Golo Kante, and Mason Mount may not help his case to get regular minutes.

An exit from the club appears to be on the horizon, however, it depends on his performances in the pre-season. Aston Villa may step up and look to secure his services this summer for the next season.

Boost for Gallagher

Amid the links, Gareth Southgate gave his opinion on the midfielder and his performances.

He said-

“In the end we have to pick and react off what we see at club level and Conor’s experiences at Charlton, Swansea, West Brom and Crystal Palace have been brilliant for him,”

“So if he goes somewhere else next season or stays at Chelsea, I’m sure he’ll keep developing. He’s got a fabulous mindset, which is the key. He’s a player that will maximise his potential because of his mentality.

“He looks like one of those who, whatever hurdles are in front of him, he’s going to break them down. I’d be very optimistic about how he would respond to any decision that is made.”

It remains to be seen whether Gallagher stays with Chelsea next season or Villa makes his transfer possible. In any case, Southgate’s words will surely boost the player’s confidence to perform at a better level.
