Graeme Souness makes big Liverpool prediction after just four games

Liverpool

Graeme Souness has made an early-season title prediction involving his former side Liverpool about winning the league.

Former Liverpool captain and manager Graeme Souness believes the club will end the season as either champions or runners-up – no lower.

Starting the 2023/24 campaign off in much better form than the last has put the Reds right back in the mix for the Premier League trophy.

After four matches they sit in third place, equal on 10 points with Tottenham, West Ham and Arsenal, whilst trailing unwavering leaders Manchester City by two points.

City remain favourites having won the last three titles –

Their last a part of a treble including the Champions League and FA Cup.

Then following on from that last year’s runners-up Arsenal have strengthened in the transfer market whilst Spurs look revitalised under new coach Ange Postecoglou, despite the loss of Harry Kane.

However his former club’s early-season displays have caught Souness’ eye, and he cannot shy away from the fact they will be serious contenders this season.

Souness makes prediction about Liverpool

Writing in the end section of his Friday column for the Mail Online, the Scotsman announced:

“I’ll make a bold statement about the Premier League race, which resumes today:

Liverpool will finish first or second this season.”

He then went on to explain his thoughts, hailing two of the club’s summer signings having both been influential on an upturn in results.

“I see a stronger Liverpool,” he continued. “Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai appear to understand the demands of playing for the club.

“Our football needs a challenge to Manchester City’s dominance and Liverpool can provide it.

They are the biggest threat to Pep Guardiola winning four titles on the trot.”

This would no doubt be disputed by those closer to either of the high-flying North London clubs,

On the east side of Manchester, at this very early stage.

What’s more, an early kick-off against Wolves today presents the opportunity for Jurgen Klopp’s men to prove Souness correct

And display their credentials as champions elect by provisionally going top of the league.
