Former Tottenham boss joins Saudi Arabian club

Nuno Espírito Santo

Former Tottenham and Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo join Saudi Arabian club, Al-Ittihad as manager. This is a very shocking move considering Nuno is still a manager who has a lot of value in England. Going from coaching Wolves and Tottenham to a smaller club in Al-Ittihad comes as a shock.

Nuno joined Wolves in 2017 and instantly found success for himself and for the club. He was able to win the Championship title with Wolves and gain promotion to the Premier League. The following season saw Wolves being the “Robin Hood” of the Premier League. Wolves were able to trample the top 6 teams however they did struggle against others. Wolves managed to finish in 7th place in the Premier League in that season and secured a Europa League spot.

Losing relevance

However, Nuno’s dominance was cut short as Wolves lost momentum somewhere along the way. Wolves struggled in the 2020/21 season and Nuno left the club in 2021 by mutual consent. Nuno was trying to make a move to another Premier League as Everton and Tottenham had shown interest. However, it was Tottenham who were able to get his signature. Although his tenure was short as Tottenham were on a losing streak. Nuno was sacked after 5 months at North London. This turned out to be the right decision for Tottenham as they were able to get Antonio Conte.

Conte transformed the squad and has built a great squad adding players like Kulusevski into the mix. Moreover, he was able to get the best out of Harry Kane who had trouble at the start of the season. Son was able to have his best season as he found the back of the net 23 times winning the golden boot along with Mohamed Salah. He managed to get Tottenham back into the top 4 and into the Champions League.
