Former referee offers verdict on Haaland decision in City vs Tottenham

Manchester City vs Tottenham Hotspur

Latest Tottenham news with a huge verdict given by Dermot Gallagher on the incident involving Erling Haaland during the draw against Manchester City

Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher has offered his verdict on the decision made by Simon Hooper in Manchester City’s draw against Tottenham.

With the game level at 3-3, Erling Haaland was fouled by Emerson Royal with Hooper opting to play advantage

Which allowed the Man City striker to continue and put Jack Grealish through on goal only for play to be brought back.

As a result, Haaland and many of his team-mates furiously surrounded the referee following his major call with the game then ending as a draw.

Haaland stormed off the pitch after aggressively shaking hands with the officials with a comment on social media later following as he tweeted:

“Wtf” with a picture of the decision made.

controversial decision in the match between city and Tottenham

Just under 24 hours after the incident occurred,

Gallagher offered his thoughts on the foul and the initial advantage played by Hooper.

On Sky Sports, he said: “Difficult, because he’s someone who plays advantage more than anybody and whatever reason he blows his whistle,

Lets it go and takes a long time to bring it back and sometimes he’s on the cusp, I feel.

“There, you see quite rightly he plays on and you can see why. The ball goes to Grealish

And he’s away and for whatever reason then Simon just puts his whistle to his mouth and blows it.

It’s interesting, we spoke the four of us a few weeks ago about referees being like players,

The best players, just delay a little bit. If he’d have waited one second, the whole landscape changes but unfortunately he didn’t.

“He’s blown his whistle, it’s unfortunate, but it’s just an error he’s made. It’s the ref’s choice to play advantage, nobody else’s, so in law he has not done anything wrong,

It’s just how we apply the law. and just really, really unfortunate because, as I say,

He is the one ref who stands out for really pushing the advantage rather than anybody. Believe it or not we are our worst enemies referees, we do take things very personally and beat ourselves up. He will be really upset this morning.
