Everton 0-0 Tottenham Hotspur: Post-match analysis

Spurs tried to play a high-pressing game but looked disjointed. And the Goodison club did not look in trouble against Tottenham Hotspur. On the other hand, the host deployed a counter-attacking system and managed to put the opposition defence under pressure time and time again.

In the second half, Everton had a penalty shout and the on-field decision was in the favour of Benítez’s side. But with the VAR’s help, the referee changed his decision and dismissed the penalty.

In the dying moments of the game substitute Mason Holgate picked up a red card after making a dangerous tackle on Pierre Emile Hojbjerg and the referee showed a red card to the Englishman with the help of VAR.

After this result, Spurs are currently unbeaten in their last nine league games in Goodison Park and Everton have now won only one game in the last 18 fixtures against the Lillywhites.

Following the game speaking on Spurs TV Antonio Conte said that he was happy with his team’s performance but still needs to improve. Conte said:

“Goodison Park is always a dangerous place for the team that comes here to play against Everton and today, I must be happy. I have seen the right will, the right will to play a game and where the spirit on the pitch was very high, the atmosphere was very high.

“I have seen many, many tactical situations that we tried in only three days (preparation). For sure, we have a great space for improvement, but you have the heart, or not. You have the passion, or not. Today, I understood that these players, when there is a situation where you have to fight, they are ready to fight, and this is very good.”

The upcoming fixtures:
