Erling Haaland could head to Liverpool

About Football Express UK

After being an outsider till now, Liverpool seems to be a frontrunner in the race for Erling Haaland. This is according to a report from Sky Sports Germany.

Haaland is the subject of interest from almost all the top clubs in Europe. However, as per the latest report, Liverpool seems to be very keen on signing the Norwegian next summer.

Though Liverpool is interested, it will not be easy to land Haaland. The Borussia Dortmund striker is one of the hottest properties in world football at the moment and there are plenty of other clubs looking for his signature.

AMAZING TALENT

Erling Haaland is one of the best strikers in the world at the moment. At just 21, he is already ripping apart defences with his pace, strength and impressive finishing.

The Norwegian made his name playing for Red Bull Salzburg and decided to join Borussia Dortmund amidst interest from many other clubs. This was an excellent move for both parties as Haaland has been scoring goals for fun with his new club.

To date, Haaland has appeared 75 times for Dortmund across all competitions. In this period he has hit a ridiculous 76 goals, averaging more than a goal a game. Add to this his 20 assist proves why he is one of the most sought talents in the world. (all stats taken from Transfermarkt)

The situation this season is no different, despite Haaland picking up an injury. In his 11 appearances in the Bundesliga this season, the Dortmund striker has 13 goals. Dortmund is also keen to keep hold of Haaland but will find it extremely difficult to keep him away from other sides for too long.

LIVERPOOL GETTING SERIOUS ABOUT HAALAND

One reason for Dortmund to have difficulty in keeping Haaland is the release clause that is present in his contract. As per the clause, Haaland could depart Dortmund if a club can meet the fee of €75 million. This is a blow for Dortmund who could otherwise have easily asked for more than €100 million.

This is exactly the reason why clubs across Europe are trying to sign Haaland. €75 million for such talent is cheap in the current market, though they will have to meet his very high wage demand as well as the agent fee for Mino Raiola.

While all the clubs are interested in signing Haaland it seems some clubs are positioned much better compared to others. The report suggests the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea might not be ready to pursue Haaland as they already are stacked in the attacking department.

Barcelona also seems to be out of the question as the asking price and wage might be too much for them. The Italian sides are also not in the running, while Bayern Munich does not want to spend such high wages and fees. This leaves only Manchester City, PSG, Real Madrid and Liverpool as the main contenders.

Liverpool in particular is interesting with the Reds looking to freshen up their attack in the summer. While the club is currently in talks with Mohamed Salah over his contract extension, it is now reported that the Egyptians want more reinforcement in the squad.

Manager Jurgen Klopp is looking to improve the depth of their attack and is keen to bring a more traditional number nine. Haaland could benefit from playing in the heavy metal football of Klopp alongside Salah, Diogo Jota, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

All these are speculations and rumours. With so many clubs battling over one player, this summer transfer window will surely be an epic one.
