Di’Shon Bernard joined Portsmouth

About Football Express UK

Manchester United academy product Di’Shon Bernard joined Portsmouth on deadline day. The Manchester United youngster made his senior debut for the club in 2019 when United faced Astana in the Europa League.

The youngster spent the 2020/21 season at Salford City before moving to Hull where he amassed 28 appearances. Since he was not in Erik ten Hag’s plans this season, he was allowed to leave on loan for the rest of the season.

What lies next for Di’Shon?

Di’Shon Bernard will spend the rest of the season at Portsmouth on loan. While his loan deal doesn’t include the option to buy, he is supposed to come back to his parent club at the end of the season. The defender still has 18 months left on his initial contract with Manchester United. However, it is being indicated that Di’Shon Bernard is not in manager Erik ten Hag’s long-term plans as he plans to oversee a massive overhaul. This means Di’Shon Bernard will likely leave the club on a permanent basis when he comes back from his loan spell at Portsmouth.

John Mousinho is looking forward to working with Di’Shon Bernard

Portsmouth’s manager John Mousinho is excited to work with Di’Shon. He told the media,

“Di’Shon Bernard is a fantastic young player with a great pedigree behind him,”

“He also has first team experience from his previous loan spells, including in the Championship, so we know what he can do.

“It was someone we didn’t think we were going to be able to bring in, so we’re really pleased to have him here”.

While speaking about his footballing abilities, Mousinho said,

“He’s very quick and athletic, and likes to play on the front foot. He’s also someone who is comfortable on the ball and composed.

“Di’Shon doesn’t mind carrying it out from the back and has had that grounding at Manchester United, where the demand is to do just that.

“But he’s also got that defensive ability that you need and for a 22-year-old, is very mature. We’re excited to get him in the building.”
