David Raya will make an instant return to Brentford this summer if Tottenham can strike a deal for the Bees goalkeeper. This is ahead of the 2023/24 Premier League season.
Tottenham fans can start making their arrangements for the new season after the 2023/24 Premier League schedule was confirmed on Thursday morning. Ange Postecoglou will take charge of his first Spurs league match on Sunday, August 13 when the Lilywhites make their way across London to take on Brentford.
David Raya to Tottenham Hotspur is imminent
Brentford technical director Lee Dykes said that in-demand goalkeeper David Raya is “well within his rights to explore his options”.
Raya, 27, has one year left on his contract and told The Athletic in February. However, he had turned down two contract offers from the club.
Dykes, who joined Brentford as part of their recruitment department in 2019, before being appointed technical director in the summer of 2020, has revealed that the club have long since had a contingency plan if Raya was to leave.
Tottenham are reportedly very keen on Raya. This is while the player himself is also said to be keen to join Spurs.
However, Brentford want £40m for the player. And, with the goalkeeper in the final year of his contract, Spurs are baulking at that asking price.
It’s not just Spurs who think he’s overpriced either, according to Jacobs. Everyone in the industry doesn’t see value in this deal.
Jacobs shared what he knows about Raya:-
“Thomas Frank has said very openly that £40m is the number. But the industry, not just Spurs, the wider industry that is looking, everyone thinks £40m is too high. Let’s see how bullish Brentford are and if Tottenham can get something a little bit cheaper. It is because if they agree a fee Raya will join Spurs because he’s perfectly happy with the personal terms,”
