The Community Shield is the first official game of the season for the English teams. The Community Shield features the team that has won the Premier League against the team that won the FA Cup. Although the Community Shield is not a very big event, It is one way of starting the season with some silverware. This year’s Community Shield will feature Premier League Champions Manchester City against FA Cup winners Liverpool.
Manchester City have undergone a minute rebuild in the Summer. They have brought in the likes of Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez to solve their striker issues. Moreover, they have brought in Kalvin Philips from Leeds to be their new defensive midfielder as Fernandinho has left the club. City will be aiming big this Summer after these signings especially that of Haaland. Manchester City will be no doubt aiming for the coveted Champions League trophy, One that has eluded them for a while. City would be hoping to add silverware early to get things off to a brisk start.
Liverpool had an unlucky season last year. They finished the season second losing to Manchester City by a single point again. Liverpool also lost the Champions League final to Real Madrid again. The Scousers arguably were the best team in the world last season however success was hard to find. Although they did manage to win the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup. Liverpool would be hoping to start their season with a nice little trophy. Although their form in the preseason is quite worrying.
