Tottenham in an official announcement declared that Dane Scarlett will be playing for Portsmouth in the coming season. This came after he secured a loan move for the Championship club. The talented English youngster won the U-19 European Championships with his national team England, earlier this year.

He got an abundance of opportunities under Spurs boss Antonio Conte last season. His performances led to him signing a new long-term contract with the club up to 2026, recently-this summer. The 18-year-old was expected to be loaned out this summer after signing his new long-term contract with Spurs.

The English striker would now play in the Championship for this season. He would get much more game time and he would gain more experience. This would help him to return to Spurs’ first team next year with much more vigor and season. Young players all over the world are loaned out early in their careers to learn more about the intricacies of their trade and get substantial game time.

Tottenham has placed much faith in Scarlett by signing such a long-term deal

There is a reason why Spurs did not let off the striker this summer and instead signed a new long-term contract. They obviously saw some spark in the teenager. The Englishman debuted for Spurs in the Premier League against Ludogorets back in November 2020. He made his debut at the age of 16 years and 247 days which made him the youngest-ever player in the club play for the club.

However, his record was broken by Alfie Devine. Scarlett playing in Spurs’ U-18s, was phenomenal in the squad. He scored 23 goals in the same number of matches. Moreover, he even made 10 first-team senior appearances for Spurs. He even made an assist during that matches. Unfortunately, last season he missed a chunk of matches due to a host of injuries. Like Scarlett, Troy Parrott and Alfie Whiteman have also secured loan moves to Preston North End and Degerfors respectively from Tottenham this season.
