Chelsea can finally begin their work in the transfer market. The club’s takeover process is almost complete after both the Premier League and the UK government green-lit it. As a result, Chelsea’s sanctions will also be banished and the club can conduct business in the transfer market. Moreover, according to The Independent, the Blues have set in motion their transfer plans. Chelsea are reportedly planning to bid for Inter player Ivan Perisic who is available this summer. Though Perisic looks set to join Chelsea’s rivals Tottenham Hotspur, the Blues are not ready to give up on him.
Perisic’s contract is up in the summer making him a free agent. According to multiple reports, the midfielder was initially close to staying at Inter Milan. However, in a turn of events, the Croatian decided to leave, with Tottenham leading the race to sign him. Nonetheless, many clubs have still shown interest in the Inter man, with Chelsea being one of them. Inter’s fellow Serie A side Juventus also wants to acquire the services of the free agent. But Chelsea will have to up their efforts as well as their offer if they seriously plan to hijack Perisic from Tottenham.
Chelsea hotly pursuing the Inter midfielder
Ivan Perisic has established himself as one of the most reliable players in his position. Moreover, the versatility he brings along with his game is simply unmatched. The 33-year-old can play both as a winger as well as a full-back. Perisic plies his trade on the left flank, while even has been experimented with in the second striker’s role. This season as well, the Croatia international has scored an impressive 10 goals and assisted 9 in 49 games for Inter. Further on, Perisic has helped Inter win the Coppa Italia and finish second in the Serie A in the process.
However, after 254 appearances for Inter in six seasons, Perisic has decided to opt for a new challenge. And Tottenham have reportedly leapfrogged every other club including Chelsea to the Inter winger’s signature. Perisic shares a very good relationship with Tottenham boss Antonio Conte with whom he worked at Inter. The winger played 42 games under Conte, scoring 5 goals and assisting as many. Perisic was a crucial part of Conte’s side which won the Scudetto in the 2020/21 season.
Antonio Conte who has a handsome budget at his disposal for the summer has made Perisic his top priority. Moreover, with Champions League football available at Spurs as well, Perisic has decided to reunite with Conte. The winger has agreed on personal terms with Tottenham and only a few formalities remain per multiple reports. However, Chelsea are not planning to back off. Thomas Tuchel believes he could still convince the Inter player to join Chelsea.
Chelsea are reportedly set to lose left-back Marcos Alonso this summer. The Blues, therefore, want Ivan Perisic to replace the Spaniard. Perisic would fit right away in Tuchel’s system which heavily relies on the wing-backs. But looking at the advanced talks between Tottenham and Perisic, it is highly unlikely the experienced winger ditches his former coach.
