Chelsea looking to bring back Emerson Palmieri

About Football Express UK

With multiple injuries to the squad, Chelsea is now trying to bring Emerson Palmieri back to the team. The Italy international is currently on loan with Olympique Lyon on a season-long loan.

Chelsea has been impacted hard by the injuries this season, especially in the wing-back positions. Emerson Palmieri is one of the players out on loan from Chelsea, who could provide a cost-effective solution to this problem.

However, it will not be easy for Chelsea to bring Emerson Palmieri back to Stamford Bridge. There is no recall clause on the loan deal with Lyon and the French outfit are not ready to let him go.

INJURY WORRIES FOR CHELSEA

The Blues started strong this season in the Premier League but has since struggled. This is mainly due to multiple injuries in the squad and the ongoing covid outbreaks in the league as a whole.

Wing-back positions are one of the major areas the club is currently struggling with. Both the first-choice wing-backs Reece James and Ben Chilwell are out with injuries. There is also a chance that Chilwell could be out for the rest of the season.

Since Chilwell cannot play the rest of the season, it leaves Chelsea with only Marcus Alonso as the left-back in the squad. The Spaniard alone is not enough for the Blues in the position if they are to mount a serious challenge to league leaders Manchester City as well as defend the Champions League.

Thus the club is currently in the market to bring a left-back in the January transfer window. Emerson Palmieri is one of the names that is being considered as an option, with manager Thomas Tuchel backing the choice.

BLUES WANTS TO BRING BACK EMERSON PALMIERI

Emerson Palmieri joined Chelsea from Roma in 2018, but could never solidify his place in the starting line-up. Over his 4 years with the clubs, the 27-year-old only made 71 for the club across all competition.

His lack of game time was consistent across all the managerial changes that happened in Stamford Bridge. Thomas Tuchel is no different as he also preferred the other wing-backs.

This prompted Emerson Palmieri to push for a move away from Chelsea. There was interest from clubs in Serie A including Napoli and Inter Milan. But it was Lyon who managed to bring him on a loan deal. The Italy international have currently made 19 appearances for the French side across all competition, scoring 1 once and assisting 1. With no recall options, Chelsea will find it hard to bring Emerson Palmieri from Lyon. Tuchel wants Emerson as he believes he will be able to adapt much easier than a new signing. The other names being discussed include the likes of Lucas Digne of Everton and Sergino Dest of Barcelona.
