Chelsea entering the race to sign Portuguese 23-year-old forward

About Football Express UK

Chelsea has reportedly entered the race to sign 23-year-old Portuguese forward Joao Felix in the summer. The Atletico Madrid attacker has been strongly linked with a move away at the end of the season.

Felix arrived in Madrid in 2019, in a  £113 million move from Benfica. While he started off strong, the 23-year-old’s influence on Diego Simeone’s side has reduced.

Since crashing out of the Champions League, Atletico Madrid are facing financial difficulties. They may look to sell players to solve these issues, and are reportedly eager to cash in on the player. A strong showing at the World Cup may allow Colchoneros to collect a substantial sum from a sale. The Portuguese youngster is also keen on a move, with agent Jorge Mendes reportedly plotting a move as early as January.

Chelsea will face stiff competition from the Portuguese forward. Fellow English clubs Manchester United and Arsenal are interested in his signature. As does European giants PSG and Bayern Munich.

Manchester United’s interest in Joao Felix

Joao Felix is a versatile and capable forward and can be an excellent long-term addition. With some time, he may develop into a World Class footballer. He is a solid alternative to Christopher Nkunku, a striker with strong links to Stamford Bridge. However, Chelsea’s main opposition to this move would come from Manchester United.

The Red Devils are reportedly very keen on Felix’s services. Manager Erik ten Hag also likes the forward a lot, and the United management may look at Felix as a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo after the latter’s departure.

Joao Felix can rejuvenate the United frontline. United does have links with other options, like PSV’s Cody Gakpo though.
